September 10, 21, and 25 we went to the NM State Fair. On the 10th I knew my friend Ariel was going to be showing the fleece from her Shetland sheep. So I dressed Brynlee up really cute and grabbed my neighbor Angie and her son Shawn and we went down to the state fair. We where already running a little late for the show and was hoping we wouldn't miss it all together. After we parked we found ourselves delayed by the Governor who had to give a speech and cute the red ribbion and stand in the way a while before we could go in. As he cut the red ribbon they set off fire works to announce the opening of the fair which I later learned those with horses (who where competing) and other animals where never told the fireworks would be set off. They also set off more than necessary. It was day and they where mostly for noise. After getting in we raced to the show barn at the back of the park and did make it in time to see my friend say hi and ask when she was showing her sheep. Angie the kids and I then saw all the animals and walked around a while till the kids got tiered. Brynlee and I ate a corn dog, french fries, and had lemonade. We LOVE fair food! This was a good day to go though because not many people where there.
On the 21st Brynlee and I went down to the fair grounds which where closed except for the shows going on that day. We went that morning and stayed to help Ariel with her sheep until that afternoon, we didn't get home till after 4pm. The pictures below are from that day...
Pink polo shirt, Polo blue jeans(19.99 at Marshals), her belt and belt buckle(boot barn), and new pink boots (that I got for $10 at a consignment sale!)
While waiting for Ariel's show classes to begin Brynlee and I had a look around at the other animals showing and getting ready to show. There where goats, sheep, and cattle.
Brynlee liked watching the animals. She was a little scared of the faces at first but by the time we left that day she just liked playing with the animals, Thanks in large part to Archie.
This was a HUGE Texas Long horn. The biggest animal there. The fence was about 6' and his back nearly reached the top.
This pair of long horns is a mother and her calf the calf was named 'Guns and Roses' but was called Annie because they already had 2 'guns and roses' and 2 'Rosies' Brynlee got to pet this calf before it stood up. It was so cute and we tried to get a picture but just weren't fast enough.
This is Taylor, Ariel's son, net to Brynlee with little Archie. Such a sweet little Shetland sheep! I just wanted to bring the cuddly little guy home.
Finally it was Show time! Sadly Ariel's sheep where forced to show along side the normal sized sheep and where put last in every class for being "under sized" even though that is how big they are supposed to be.
Brynlee even found her own sheep pen turned Kid pen. At one point she had sheep in both pens on either side of her and loved it, but by this time was getting very tiered because she skipped her nap, There was just so much to see!
