.....if you can call it that. THIS is Monkey!
So you may or may not be wondering why we decided to get our 2 year old a fish! Especially after the day she gave me yesterday. Yes we do realize that there is a 75% chance that at some point Brynlee will try to take the fish out of the tank and take it for a walk and inadvertently spill water all over the floor and dresser and killing the fish. We also realize that there is a 99% chance that she will find the fish food and try to feed the fish the whole canister getting fish food every where and killing the fish by over feeding it. There is also a 65% chance she will try to climb her dresser to get to the fish and knock the whole thing over on top of herself. So once again with so much high risk why on earth would we get our 2 year old a fish!?!?!?!
Simply a night light. I know this sounds ridiculous to you and to me and I am sure it sounds absurd to my husband as well but we decided to give it a whirl any way after all it's only a $5 fish right?
Lately Brynlee has been having trouble sleeping unless we leave the door open, however if we leave the door open she sits at the baby gates and talks and plays and laughs for an extra hour every night. So I got her a fish tank where we can turn on a light in it when she goes to bed and we can turn it off before we go to bed but after she has fallen asleep. Yes I could have gotten her a night light in stead of a fish but as it is all the light sockets in her room are covered from view by various bits of furniture where a night light would be ineffective. Brynlee also really likes fish. So James and I came to the conclusion that a small aquarium with one or 2 fish would make a very good night light from the top of her dresser, hence we now have Monkey.
Now your second question... Why on earth did we name it Monkey!? Well James suggested Jaws or Bait, I thought Bones or Asmoden (don't ask it's from the book I am reading). After dinner we asked Brynlee for the 3rd or 4th time what her fish's name was and she finally answered with a monkey sound and said "Monkey" James asked her "You want to call your fish Monkey!?" and she said "Yeah!" So we now have a fish called Monkey (she also just got back from visiting her Uncle Monkey) Cross your fingers that she understood when mommy told her that the fish would die if we took it out of the tank, and that the fish has to stay IN the tank, and that she has to leave the fish alone but can look at it from her bed!
